Back
in
the
early
days,
batteries
for
your
Harley
Davidson
motorcycle
weren’t
expected
to
do
much
more
than
provide
a
power
source
for
the
lights
and
for
the
occasional
blow
of
the
horn.
Slowly
but
surely
though,
things
began
to
change
and
the
battery
began
taking
on
ever
more
important
roles.
With
the
introduction
of
the
electric
engine
for
example,
the
battery
became
the
thing
that
determined
whether
you
were
taking
your
bike
out
for
a
ride
that
day
or
not.
Today,
the
batteries
for
your
Harley
Davidson
motorcycle
give
life
to
many
of
the
motorcycle’s
components,
and
as
the
owner
of
a
Harley,
it’s
up
to
you
to
make
sure
it’s
performing
at
maximum
capacity.
... |
In
fact,
checking
the
batteries
for
your
Harley
Davidson
motorcycle
needs
to
become
part
of
your
routine.
It’s
easy
to
overlook
the
battery
because
for
the
most
part,
we
just
expect
that
it’ll
perform
as
it
should.
But
that’s
one
of
the
biggest
mistakes
Harley
owners
make.
Corrosion
or
a
loose
connection,
which
could
occur
at
literally
any
moment,
is
all
it
takes
for
your
motorcycle
battery
to
go
bad.
Even
if
you’ve
invested
in
one
of
the
“maintenance-free”
batteries,
you
still
need
to
pay
attention
to
it.

Ensuring
that
the
batteries
for
your
Harley
Davidson
motorcycle
perform
at
optimum
capacity
begins
even
before
its
purchase.
Different
Harley
models
have,
through
the
years,
utilized
different
batteries
so
your
first
step
is
to
know
the
specifications
for
your
model.
Then
make
your
purchase.
Next
in
line
of
importance
is
charging
your
battery.
And
by
this
I
don’t
mean
on
your
credit
card!
If
the
first
battery
charge
isn’t
done
properly,
the
battery
will
never
perform
at
optimum
capacity.
Fully
charging
the
battery
initially
ensures
that
it
can
regain
a
full
charge
later
on.
From
there,
regular
visual
inspections
of
the
battery
are
the
only
way
you
have
of
protecting
yourself
from
becoming
stranded
at
the
most
inopportune
time.
Don’t
wait
until
the
lights
start
to
dim
to
check
your
battery
because
by
then,
it’s
likely
going
to
be
too
late.
When
visually
inspecting
the
batteries
for
your
Harley
Davidson
motorcycle,
start
by
looking
at
the
connections
to
make
sure
none
have
become
loosened.
If
they
have,
all
that’s
typically
needed
is
to
tighten
them.
Also
look
for
corrosion,
and
if
any
is
noticed,
disconnect
the
impacted
wire
and
remove
the
corrosion.
A
wire
brush
will
help.
When
corrosion-free,
simply
reconnect.
Then
check
the
electrolyte
levels.
The
electrolyte
levels
in
each
cell
must
be
high
enough
to
cover
each
plate.
If
any
of
the
levels
are
lower
than
this,
fill
using
only
distilled
water
and
take
care
while
doing
so.
Finally
if
the
battery
isn’t
fully-charged,
charge
it
using
a
1
to
3
amp
charger
until
the
indicator
reads
Full.
Just
a
few
short
minutes
spent
visually
inspecting
the
battery
on
your
Harley
Davidson
motorcycle,
or
about
as
long
as
it
took
you
to
read
this,
is
all
that’s
needed
to
ensure
that
the
battery
continues
to
function
optimally.
